1st Grade Science
Welcome to 1st Grade Science
My aim in first grade science is to tap into the students' sense of wonder and natural curiosity as they develop a better understanding of the world around them. The hands-on nature of science is fun and motivating, but we want to make sure to keep the focus on developing conceptual understanding too. We will be conducting many experiments this year in the areas of physical science, life science, earth science, and scientific inquiry. Some of the topics we will explore are: magnets, balance, Fall, air, the human body and the five senses, light and color, and night and day. The children are taught collaborative skills to aid them in discussion that helps them learn concepts and the inquiry skills involved in doing science and technology. Students work in the Lower School Garden and contribute to the composting program. We also take advantage of Lovettís natural surroundings as we conduct investigations outside.
Young children begin to understand science if they are given the opportunity to think and find out for themselves. Please encourage questions and scientific investigations and discoveries at home and have fun!
